National Payroll Week 2011
This years theme, Making Payroll Shine aims to celebrate the important role which individuals have within the payroll process, and aims to encourage businesses to recognise the invaluable contributions of payroll
professionals.
In
our recognition to support the abilities of our workforce, we
are actively engaged in the Payroll Quality Partnership. As the role of
the payroll profession continues to expand in complexity so
too has the importance of staff training. We are
Investors In People and an
AAT
Accredited Employer committed to the training
and development of our payroll staff.

To celebrate the National Payroll Week 2011.....
Our staff will all have a payroll and pension test during NPW 2011 with the winner receiving £50 voucher.
This will keep them on their toes.
We are offering small
companies and charities free advice on understanding employees tax codes and how the payslips
works. Our offices are open for small businesses to drop in for a nice cup of tea
and some home made cup cakes.
Contact us for more information quoting
your registered charity number and the number of employees working for your
charity.
Compupaye has done some research.
Did you know that:
- Only 80 per cent of the paid agent community holds a formal qualification?
You may be at risk of entrusting your payroll with the 20% who
are not qualified.
- HMRC aims to keep compliance costs down with minimal impact on both departments.
HMRC recognises the importance of our role and have published a consultation document on
"Establishing the future relationship between the tax agent community and HMRC."
When the payroll envelope leaves our premises,
our error rate is less than 1 error in every 1000 employees. We have a 4 stage quality control
process to keep the errors to this level and we work
closely with the HMRC compliance team.
The
CIPP is a 27 year
old membership organisation which recently achieved Chartered status. People who work in the payroll industry have seen a
fundamental shift in the way they work recently because tax
legislations have become more complicated and the Government has
moved the burden of collection onto the employer.
Research by CIPP have revealed the following data:
- Payroll is a mission critical function for all organisations. Annually, the UK’s 2 million employers pay over £1trillion in wages and benefits with over £200 billion in statutory deductions remitted to government and
over £95 billion in health and retirement benefits
- This country will probably be close to bankruptcy if
the PAYE was not paid over on time.
- A company with 500 employees that submits incorrect P9/P11Ds could face up to £1.5 million fines from HMRC – giving us a lot of responsibility to get it right!
- Payroll Professionals are responsible for over 95 billion in
health and retirement benefits.
- The PAYE collected by us Payroll Professionals is
nearly half of the total taxes the UK Government receives.
- Payroll Professionals are responsible for more than 2900 HM
Revenue & Customs (HMRC) forms.
- We have to keep abreast of the ever changing regulations.
CIPP has identified around 1000.
- Payroll Professionals pay more than 50 million employees every month involving 1,000 different regulations.
