Important changes to childcare vouchers salary sacrifice

For babies due on or after 5th October 2008 employers are obliged to continue providing childcare vouchers if the employee was already receiving childcare vouchers on the day she starts her maternity leave.

June 2009 National Minimum Wage

From 6 April 2009 employers will face a penalty if HM Revenue & Customs  discover they have failed to pay the national minimum wage and workers will be entitled to have arrears of wages repaid at current rates. These changes were brought in by the Employment Act 2008 (the Act).

The minimum entitlement is now 5.6 weeks (28 days if you work a five-day week).

Maternity Statutory Payments – rates 2008/09

If you have an employee who leave work for maternity pay here are the up to-date rates we will be using effective 6 April.

Maternity

90% of average salary for 6 weeks 

£123.06 for 33 weeks

Adoption

No higher rate

£123.06 for 33 weeks

No higher rate

£123.06 for 2 weeks 

Women can come in for up to 10 working days before the 39 weeks are  up and be paid without losing her paid SMP. These are known as KIT days "Keeping In Touch" .  The age restriction has been removed therefore employees aged under 16 will be eligible for SMP.

NHS New contribution Rates 2009-2010

Part A applies of your employees were in NHS pensionable employment on the 31 March 2009 and continue to be so in the same employment.

Part B applies from 1 April 2009 for:

  • New starters
  • Employees who has returned to the NHS after a break
  • Employees who has changed jobs (including a promotion or demotion or),
  • Significant (pensionable) pay rises over and above an AfC pay rise.

PAYE in-year filing -  New Design P45 Forms

From 6 April 2009 we must use the new versions of form .  The new P45 was introduced from October 2008. The old A5 versions of the form are now discontinued. The new versions of the form include the date of birth and gender fields to aid HMRC to match an employee’s information with their records.

If your employee has a main job elsewhere where they are paying the maximum national insurance, they can apply for a deferment of paying any additional national Insurance if this second job. More information is on our customer support pages.

From 6 April 2009 suffix V tax code will no longer be used. Prior to this date suffix V was used where the tax code included the maximum age related allowances.  Read More>
