New penalties for late in-year PAYE payments

From May 2010 HMRC intends to implement new penalties for late payment of PAYE. A penalty will soon be imposed if you do not pay the PAYE due each month, on time and in full. Employer Bulletin Issue 33

National Minimum Wage

From 6 April 2009 employers will face a penalty if HM Revenue & Customs discover they have failed to pay the national minimum wage and workers will be entitled to have arrears of wages repaid at current rates. These changes were brought in by the Employment Act 2008 (the Act). You can also learn more from our National Minimum Wage page.

If you have an employee who leave work for maternity pay here are the up to-date rates we will be using effective 6 April.

Women can come in for up to 10 working days before the 39 weeks are  up and be paid without losing her paid SMP. These are known as KIT days "Keeping In Touch" .  The age restriction has been removed therefore employees aged under 16 will be eligible for SMP.
